Grief Support in Schools
The Academy offers grief groups for school-aged students, providing them the opportunity to connect with their peers as they learn and grow through their grief together. The six-week program aims to help children understand and normalize their own grief experiences, while also providing tools for coping.
The Academy is available to respond when a death occurs in the school community and can facilitate grief support as well as debriefing services in a group setting to students and staff alike. All of our Grief Support in Schools services are offered at no cost to any school (preK-12) in the community.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the Academy is providing school grief groups to the following schools:
- Studebaker Elementary School, Des Moines
- Goodrell Middle School, Des Moines
- Hiatt Middle School, Des Moines
- Urbandale High School
- Summit Middle School, Johnston
- Parkview Middle School, Ankeny
