Carl Emmett Runge

Carl Emmett Runge, 86, of Waukee, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at his home with his loving wife, Carol by his side. Carl was born on March 26, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Carl met the love of his life, Carol Bowie, while attending Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. They were united in marriage on August 29, 1958. Together they had four children.

He served in the Army, and following his honorable discharge, he began working for Texaco Corporation. Carl started his own printing company “Carl’s Printing” and enjoyed working with his clients until his retirement in 2015.

Carl was a member of the Lutheran Church of Hope. He enjoyed coaching each of his children’s sports teams which included hockey, softball, and baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Carrie (Gene) Motter, Don (Kim) Runge, Chris (Delight Kraus) Runge, and Mark Runge (Elaine Eley); grandchildren, Scott (Kaitlyn) Motter, Tyler (Chelsea) Motter, Ashley (Jake) Forrester, Shay (fiancé Kelsey Bauer) Motter, Dustin (Kathy) Runge, Jason Runge, Andrew (Whitley) Davidson, and Brian Eley (Breanna Kidder); great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Mariah, Peyton, Landon, Brooke, Jordyn, Katie, Cameron, Kaitlynn, Braxton, Jacob, William, Bradlee and Brayden; 2 nephews and 1 niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Florence (Shaw) Runge and his sister, Katherine Tax.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of the Midwest for their kind care of Carl in his final days.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa with private burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
