Gwendolyn M. Burrell

Gwendolyn Marie Burrell, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

Gwendolyn was born June 5, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa. As a young person, she moved to San Francisco for a time with her aunt. Gwendolyn was a banquet waitress at the Savory Hotel in Des Moines for twenty five years. She loved to cook and was famously known for her macaroni and cheese. Gwendolyn was a member of Hawkeye Elks Lodge #160 and a daughter of Rose Temple #33 for fifty years. She loved music and dancing. Gwendolyn was sought after for her wise advice. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah Palmer, son Charles Burrell (Melinda), son, Tony Burrell (Jozetta), son William Green, daughter Tanya Wyant, daughter Tammy Harris (David), and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends.

Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Thomas Barber and her mother, Erma Mae (Massey) Carr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family via Hamilton’s Funeral Home.
