Service Details

Lonnie Kent Wildrick, 80, devoted husband, father, and cherished friend, passed away on the afternoon of October 29, 2024. Those who knew him well might fondly assume that he was, even in that moment, running a bit behind. He is now reunited with his beloved brother and parents.

Kent leaves behind his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou, and their two sons, Craig (Gretchen) Wildrick and Rodney Wildrick (Chantelle Smith). Kent had a deep love for his dogs, finding joy and companionship in their presence throughout his life. He touched the lives of many through his dedication to family, profession, and community.

Born on December 19, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Donald and Alberta (Perry) Wildrick, he grew up in Union Park. A proud graduate of North High School and Drake University’s College of Pharmacy, Kent enjoyed a distinguished career as a pharmacist before retiring in 2020. He was deeply committed to his work and continuously sought to expand his knowledge. Over the years, he practiced at pharmacies across Iowa, including Highland Park, where he grew up, building lasting relationships with colleagues and patients. He was a five-decade member of The Morning Club of Des Moines, an experience that greatly shaped his life.

Kent was also an active member of his community. His philanthropic spirit was evident in his work with the Des Moines Jaycees and as a director of the Soap Box Derby for Iowa, A proud Eagle Scout, he never forgot his time at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, 511 Des Moines Street, also in Des Moines. Kent will be buried near family at the Laurel Hill Cemetery on a later date.

Kent’s humor, warmth, and deep compassion for those in need will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in his memory be made to Kent’s preferred charities: Wounded Warriors, WesleyLife Hospice, or AHeinz57 Pet Rescue, as he would have wished.
