Robert "Sparky" Sparks

Robert Scott Sparks (Sparky), 87, passed away March 29th 2025. Robert was born January 24th, 1938 in Chariton, Iowa to Lee and Ola Sparks. Robert grew up with 5 sisters and a brother.

Robert married Pat on March 31, 1956. They met during youth group at church in 1955. Robert joined the Army in August of 1956 serving during the Cold War. Robert and Pat spent the first few years of marriage living in Straubing, Germany where he was stationed. Robert and Pat raised three wonderful children together Vicki, Robert (Bob) and Glen.

Robert spent 59 years “working” for Electronic Engineering Co although if you asked him he would probably say he never worked a “real” job. He loved the work he did especially when he could help someone. He enjoyed a challenge and prided himself on doing things the right way.

Robert and Pat enjoyed camping and were part of the Corn Belt Campers Winnebago Club and Cutty’s camping club. Robert enjoyed being outside, riding his bike, and going to Menards.

Robert is survived by his wife, Pat; Children, Vicki, Robert II (Mechelle) and Glen; grandchildren, Sarah (Jason), Kimberly (Chris), Robert III, Angel, Jacob and Adam; great grandchildren, Jacoby, Jonah, Jett and Jia; sister, Colleen; brother-In-Law, Stan as well as many other close family and friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ola; sisters, Leona, Florine, Jackie, Dixie; and brothers, David and Thomas.

Family will greet friends on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Graveside service will take place on Friday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery, 525 NW 54th Street in Des Moines. Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.
