Delores Aswegan

Delores Aswegan, age 96, passed from this earthly life to eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, March 28, 2025. She was born August 20, 1928, in Indianola, Iowa to James and Mabel (McKirgan) Berry.

Delores grew up in Warren County graduating from Martinsdale High School in 1945 at the age of 16. She was class Valedictorian, Class Vice President, and was editor-in-chief of “The Martin’s Tale”. After graduation she moved to Esther Hall in Des Moines and worked at Iowa Farm Mutual from 1945-1951. Delores married Gerhart Aswegan on July 17, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines. They celebrated 66 years together until his death in 2015. She worked for American Mutual Life Insurance from 1972-1993.

Following retirement, she become an active volunteer with the United Way’s R.S.V.P program and several other organizations until November 2024.

She is survived by her children, Jane (Gary) Pike; their son, Nathan (Kerri) Pike; and her son, Martin Miller; Paul (Melinda) Aswegan; their son, Jacob (Kati) Aswegan and grandson, Keith Beaderstadt.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhart Aswegan; son, Gary Aswegan; daughter, Judy Swenson; granddaughter, Stephanie Pike; her parents, Mabel and James Berry; brother, Gerald Berry; in-laws, Slim (W.J.) Allen, Donna Berry, and Wayne Cook.

Visitation will be held at 11:00-12:00 p.m. April 8, 2025, with funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church. 4003 2nd Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50313

Memorial contributions may be directed to Our Saviour Lutheran Church in memory of Delores of which she was a member since 1961.
