Monte R. Cubit

Monte R. Cubit, beloved husband of Kathleen Cubit, passed away on October 10, 2024.

Monte was born on December 2, 1950, to John and Regina Cubit in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He grew up in University Park and attended the University of Iowa and William Penn University. Monte worked as delivery driver for 25 years and during this time was recognized for many safe driving awards. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing from the foredeck of Kathleen and his houseboat on Lake Rathbun. If he wasn’t fishing, you could find Monte just sitting and listening to music while he would smoke a cigar. He enjoyed sitting outside, especially in the evenings, with his wife and the two of them discussing the enjoyments of retirement together. Monte always loved having a good conversation with others, whether it be about a good musical, an excellent movie, or even an elevating book. Above all the things, Monte’s absolute favorite to do was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved his family with all of his heart and soul and in return, Monte was deeply loved and appreciated. Monte always wanted his family to do well and to always live happily. Anyone who was blessed to know Monte knows he was truly a wonderful and selfless person. He always went out of his way to help his family and friends. Monte will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.

Monte is survived by his wife, Kathleen Cubit; his daughter, April; his sons, Daniel and Joseph; and his grandchildren, David, Sofia, and Isabella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Regina Cubit; his brothers, Les and Lannie; and his sister, Judith.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be held immediately following the Celebration of Life service until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
